Idea, similarly to Le Poncho, did this review on his website without TFW knowing of it until it was stumbled across. It’s not so much a full-out review as it is a “hey, check this out” message.

Still Blazin’
by Idea

Well, finally I’m back. Yeah it’s been almost 3 weeks. But finally Still Blazin’ is back up. I’ve been backed up in homework and fed work for the last 2 weeks. But I’ve also found a lot of interesting things surfing over those 3 weeks. I was going to focus this column on “Gimmick Infringement” but that will be next week. I’ve decided to jump around a little.

The first thing I’d like to bring up is the concept of old school efeds. Whatever happened to just hardcore roleplaying, and dedicated staff, without poser and other enhancements. “The Game” has changed over the years. The question is do these feds still exist, or can they survive with the rise of poser and simulators.

Well I ended up in this fed called KNF. What makes the name funny is nobody seems to know what it stands for including the staff? KNF is an old school efed. It doesn’t even have a webpage. It functions out of a well-put together forum. With profiles, strats, and confidential communication with the staff. This fed has great quality roleplayers and even better staff. They are very dedicated to the fed, and quite good with angles. It caught my attention immediately with the size of the roster and quality of it.

KNF staff has a B.O.G. Board of Governors. This consist of 3 members. They regulate and keep the fed in checks and balances. If old school e-wrestling or maybe just great e-wrestlers is your type of efed…then definetly check out KNF.

-KNF-

I also came across someplace called Toonopolis! This place is “off the wall”. It has incorporated the idea of e-wrestling into Cartoon Fighting! Yes cartoon fighting. It is very creative and original idea. You roleplay just as in efeds. But there is no aspect of reality. Your character can range from: A sign, Potty Mouth and so forth. Originality is a most in Toonopolis. Your originality is your qualification into Toonopolis. If your toon isn’t unique enough it is going to be quite hard to get in. With a waiting list, you may never get in if you don’t have an imagination.

Not to mention the great site design. It includes a on-point ranking system. 4 major titles. Such as: Tooniverse, Slapstick, Drunkard and Pathetic titles. I find that the Drunkard title is quite interesting. During the title match or defense your toon has to be drunk in order to compete. Toonopolis is a great addition to the world of e-entertainment. Hopefully there may be more like this in the future.

-Toonopolis-

Goddamit, the Giants lost! Well since the Giants have lost I guess NY has been disgraced and Idea will have to go home and cry. So catch yall next week.

*All scores are out of 5*

Website Design/Information

Since the last review Jeremy has redone the design and I really like it. The colors go very well together and are perfect for the cartoon effect. The links are to the point and it’s easy to find what you need. There is a lot of information about Toonopolis, an origin, for people who are new to the site and have no idea what the hell TFW is… There are informative biographys of each toon and once again the graphics are perfect for the cartoon effect.. There’s also rankings to see who is number one and who is the worst toon in TFW. One thing I like is the art gallery.. I like to get a good visual of the wrestlers, or in this case, toons and the pictures give a great view of them.. There are some talented artists there, one being Epsilon. I pretty much can’t find anything wrong with the website or the info on it.

Score – 5 out of 5

Weekly Shows

The weekly show is Saturday Morning, appropriately titled, and the lineup gives detailed information about each main match of the show. Each show is jam packed with matches and that’s a plus… The page also has last week’s results which is also good because you don’t have to read through last weeks show to see who won and who lost.. Now onto the actual show.. One thing I really like is the “card quick jump”, it lets the viewer jump to any match on the show quickly without having to read through the entire show. Jeremy is a great writer and it shows with the cards.. I actually read the whole show and it was good, a lot better than some of the feds out there today… Another little bonus is the “Name that Quote” parts throughout the show. Jeremy gives everyone a chance to gain extra points by throwing in movie quotes throughout the show and whoever gets it correct gets the points. I like that.. I like it a lot..

Score – 5 out of 5

Roleplaying/Participation

I see Jeremy has changed his rp board since I last reviewed the site and I personally like the change.. He has a board dedicated to each major match and I like that. You don’t have to sort through other roleplays that don’t even concern you.. And once again he has that cartoon-ish style for the boards…

Score – 5 out of 5

Overall

If I had time and was still into e-wrestling I would defiantly join TFW. I’m really glad that TFW has taken off and Jeremy has worked hard on TFW and it shows.. I suggest everyone check out TFW at least once.. The only thing I would like to see changed is the name.. I would drop the Fighting World and just call it “Toonopolis” but that’s my opinion and I’m dumb so it doesn’t matter.

Final Score – 100 out of 100

A Canuck’s Ramblings

What All E-feds Should Be Like

Hey, hey, hey… it’s that wacky Canuck Rat Bastard again, coming to you from the bitter cold of Toronto on Canuck Thanksgiving with my intermittent column. This one’s about something I stumbled upon while searching Ezboard for e-wrestling shit… and it’s HELLA cool.

It’s called Toonopolis, and in my opinion, it’s the best thing going today. Toonopolis is an e-fed… not your traditional one, though. Ever seen the movie Roger Rabbit? Know the place there called Toontown? Take a bunch of created cartoons, stick them in an arena, and set them to kicking each other’s asses, and you’ve got the premise of Toonopolis.

Basically, it’s a normal e-fed, only far, FAR wackier. It’s got one of the best-designed websites I’ve ever seen, absolutely PHENOMENAL shows (after my own heart). He takes the same concept that is the basis of e-wrestling (may the best writer win) and applies it to something that would allow more creativity… less restriction… and no emphasis on “reality.” CARTOONS!

This works because it’s so completely light-hearted, wacky, and irreverent. There’s still a bit of competition for those who like it, but there’s just SO much potential for creativity, it’s mindblowing. They use strats, a loose RP scheme, and the best, fairest ranking system I’ve ever seen. The RP quality ranges from pretty good to Cooper Tate on Speed, and there’s only one 12-year-old handler… I’m still the oldest, but only by a year, and there’s plenty of high school senior types.

Toonopolis is, bar none, THE most creative e-federation on the net. The results are some of the best I’ve ever seen, the roleplaying is decent to tremendous, it’s a great-looking site, and it’s fucking FUNNY. Definitely worth your time, and I think that the spirit there is what every e-fed’s lacking, and the same kind of light-heartedness that made the JNF great.

‘Til next time (and a LONGER column),

PONCHO
“You’ve moved from ASS into the main stream, baby!”

EA E-Fed Review

By Mike Blair
July 24th, 2000

This review is going to be based on several different aspects.. Everything from Content to web design will be graded here and I will give a score at the end.. So with that let’s begin…

(All scores are based out of 100)

Toonopolis Fighting World

1.) Web Design

The design is simple but effective. I really don’t like the background color or the s p a c e s i n b e t w e e n e a c h l e t t e r. That’s really annoying. The site does load fast and that’s a plus in my book.

Score: 65

2.) Content

I like all the content on the website. The site navigation is a big plus, more pages should have this. It gives detailed information about each page and what each page is for. This is perfect for someone just coming to the site. They also have an origins page which is also big in my book. It tells about the history of TFW both in and out of character, not very many feds do that, I like that a lot. Another thing I really like is instead of having a rules page, they have a F.A.Q. It’s got all the questions a newcomer to the site would probably have if not more. The content just gets better with the application as it is form based, I really hate that cut and paste app that some feds. It’s a waste of time to cut all the app and paste it into an email and then fill out the details and such. The staff page is good as well. The bios are short but they are to the point. ‘Nuff said. Now onto the bios/roster. I like the bios alot, not to fond of the color of the font though. The bios are really detailed and gives a good idea of what the toon looks like. They also got a rankings page which most feds have but they do it a little differently. They have a points system they use and they explain all about it below the rankings. I like that a lot, very informative. The champs page is also good. While not long it does have the vital info. The upcoming card page needs a little work though, they could give some background info on the match and why it was signed but other than that, I like it. Archives page, another plus… Art gallery, I like it a lot and have no complaints, I always like to envision what an e-wrestler or toon looks like.. And now I come to the final page, the Misc page. I’ve never seen this done with another fed, mainly cuz I’ve never seen another toon fighting fed before. On the misc page they have a cartoon laws of physic section which is very informative and gives the basic rules to a cartoon.. They’ve also got a strat (I’m assuming that’s what it is) form and several other extras that no other place has.. I like the content on this site a LOT…

Score: 100

3.) Cards / Writing

I like what Jeremy said on the upcoming card page.. He said something to the effect of “The show will take place on Saturday morning but remember that in Toonopolis every day is Saturday morning so be ready for it on any day in the real world.” I like that. He doesn’t set a date for the show to come out and keeps the guys coming back day after day to see if the show is up or not. Anyway.. I opened up the July 10th show, I’ve never read a TFW show before so this will be a first… I like how the staff has links to each individual match so you don’t have to read through the entire card to find the match you want to see or are involved in. I like how Jeremy throws in a chance to gain some extra points for the toons… I like how he has images to introduce the next match.. Not many feds do that.. I like the writing of the show.. It mixes toon fighting with wrestling.. I like it a lot. Over all I like the writing and the show in general. I really have no downside to the show, the only one I DO have is that background. Why?

Score: 90

4.) Roleplaying

It seems the toons of Toonopolis do roleplay, frequently.. While the roleplays are not very long some of them are funny in my opinion.. Some of them just don’t have a point to them and could be longer.. This is really the only downside to TFW I see. Get some better roleplaying in and this score would/could go up..

Score: 50

5.) Updates

The website is up-to-date with an update today. I like when a fed updates often and it looks like TFW does.. Even though they are little updates..

Score: 80

6.) Overall

Overall while Toonopolis isn’t really an E-wrestling fed, it does mix the qualities of cartoons and wrestling.. I think very well. I see no reason for this new type of e-wrestling to take off…

Overall Score: 90

Remember that these views are my own… I don’t really want to hear shit from anyone about my views.
